The Algae thing is REAL

I read this article. I have been following the Algae Biofuel curve for quite a while. This really works. It's time we get behind the only valid alternative energy program out there.

From the Article:

Investing in Algae Biofuel

Hundreds of millions of years ago, the earth was covered with shallow oceans filled with algae and other simple critters.

As landmasses shifted and grew, water was displaced, leaving thick masses of algal residue that were eventually buried and compressed.

Skip forward a few eons, throw in some heat and pressure and ta-da! Oil.

Then, in 1859, Colonel Drake drilled the first oil well in Titusville, PA, unleashing not only oil but an economic juggernaut that would dictate our way of life for years to come.

The world began to use oil for everything from fuel to waterproofing, and since then has consumed over a trillion barrels. With such furious consumption — and no way to make more — world oil reserves are set to dwindle.

Essentially, we're going to deplete in less than 300 years what took hundreds of millions of years to form. And with the depletion of oil, alternatives are destined to emerge.

And ironically. . . algae is one of them.

Biofuel Bliss

Research like that being done at the Colorado State University's (CSU), Engines and Energy Conservation Laboratory and the University of New Hampshire (UNH), suggests that algae could supply enough fuel to meet all of America's transportation needs in the form of biodiesel.

That's right . . . all of it.

Whereas with our current biodiesel feedstocks, like soy and palm, there's no way we could grow enough to supply all of our transportation needs.

In fact, it would actually require twice the land area of the United States devoted to soybean production to meet current heating and transportation needs.

That's a lot of beans!

Algae, on the other hand, could supply all U.S. diesel power using a mere 0.2% of the nation's land.

In fact, enough algae can be grown to replace all transportation fuels in the U.S. on only 15,000 square miles, or 9.6 million acres of land.

That's about the size of the state of Maryland.

Granted, that still may sound like a lot of land. . . but consider that we now use 938 million acres for farmland in the U.S.

I'd show you a pie chart of how much land would be required for algae growth — but the slice is so tiny, it wouldn't even be visible.

So now the question is, how the heck can you make so much biodiesel from such a small amount of algae?

Well, let's revert back to ninth-grade science class for a moment. . .

Biofuels are really a form of solar energy. Because crops convert solar energy into chemical energy in a process called (anyone? anyone?). . . photosynthesis.

It's this chemical energy, in the form of oils, that we need to produce biofuels.

According to the UNH report, the more efficient a particular plant is at converting solar energy into chemical energy, the better it is from a biofuels perspective.

So in this area, algae's the clear winner.

In fact, algae does this so well that up to 50% of its body weight can be fat, or the oil needed to make biodiesel.

That makes algae the highest-yielding feedstock for biodiesel, producing 24 times more oil per acre, on average, than the next leading feedstock — palm oil at 635 gallons/acre/year:

(image)

And some companies have far surpassed the 15,000 gallon per acre-accepted benchmark.

In fact, one company can produce 180,000 gallons of biodiesel every year from just one acre of algae. That comes to about 4,000 barrels, at a cost of $25 per barrel or $.59 per gallon.

To put that in perspective, it takes 3,750 acres of soy to make the same amount of biodiesel at a cost of about $2.50 per gallon for 4,000 barrels.

So, how is this going to be done?

Algae Profits Bloom

It is possible to use human sewage and wastewater from agricultural endeavors to enhance the growth of algae.

In fact, when done right, algae can double and even triple overnight with the addition of these fertilizers.

Compare that to the five-month growing season for soy or canola!

Plus, as algae absorbs Co2 from the air as it grows. MIT has even fed emissions from their on-site power plant directly to algae being cultivated for biofuel production.

In addition, fertilizer for other food crops can be produced by using the leftover nutrients that aren't used to make the biofuel.

That's like having your algae and eating it too.

So let's back up and look at the big picture. . .

We have the technology right now to cultivate algae that can be used as fuel, using human and animal waste as fertilizer.

This is waste that would otherwise need to be treated, or it will end up in our nation's groundwater.

Not a bad deal at all!

After the necessary oils have been extracted from the algae, we use the byproducts (phosphorus and nitrogen), as fertilizer for the food crops that feed the nation — all while extracting C02 from the air.

That's a beautiful thing.

And that's why we're currently looking at a number of companies . . . some public, some soon-to-go-public . . . that we believe will capitalize in a big, big way on algae.

Now don't get me wrong. The last thing we want to do now is jump on every algae-based biodiesel producer that comes along.

Until we see validation on a commercial scale, this is a market that will have to remain under the microscope.

Iranian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani Death Sentence:

IF a country can execute people for converting to Christianity from Islam, how much more guilty is someone who professes Christianity even if they never were a Muslim? If you wonder who the beast is, and what the roots of the persecution to come will be, it's exemplified by this death sentence. Islam is NOT innocuous; It is the tool satan will use to fulfill these words: Matt 24:9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

I am angry at THIS!!

I see the Wounded Warriors, limbless and infirmed and I wonder why we shed one drop of American blood for these ingrates. As a right winger I regret to depart from a strong military, but this has become insane.

A young man got called into the Pastor's office one day. As he stood there before the desk, these words were spoken to him: "Marcus, I'm sorry we are not going to hear your beautiful voice anymore in our church choir." The young man appeared somewhat stunned and asked why, what have I done. He was told that he had grown his mustache back and even though it was a small one, it was against what he had required of the men in his church. I remember the young man trying to reason that he had understood the overseer to say that he didn't see anything wrong with certain particular men in the fellowship having one. Well, it was agreed that the overseer had indeed said that but he didn't agree with the overseer. The young man was suspended indefinitely from the choir. His was a beautiful voice, an humble spirit. He was one of our best voices. Tears began pouring down my face, I couldn't stop them. I shook with great sobs as the young man was dismissed. He left and walked away, twisting his hat in his hands. I don't remember seeing him anymore in church after that. (The name has been changed. The account is all too real.)

I think of 11 years ago this month. Feb 2001. President Bush had just taken office. The dot com boom was dying fast. Jobs were plentiful. No one was stealing copper out of street lights. Our government was in surplus financially. Economics were vigorous. I was having a pretty good year. It wasn't a few months later that 9-11 happened, the war on terror. Spending going insane. IF you think I am hard on President Obama, you have no framework to see how hard I was on President George W Bush. He did a lot of things right, and many more wrong. We need to turn back from the out of control government that Bush Two and Bush Three (Obama) put into place. Hope and change have become hopelessness and unchanging.

I think the delusion of Self Importance is the saddest delusion of all.

I know many of my right wing friends will think I have gone off the reservation. I AGREE with Pres Obama on this. I did my due diligence and long ago made the assessment that as opposed to wind, solar, ethanol, cellulosic conversion, electric cars and hybrids, this is ONE genuine answer. My only criticism of the President is the amount being spent is way too little. This will work if we commit to it, coal, more oil and nuclear. Many can testify to my long term support for this promising technology. We could replace ALL our oil with this and take up an area less than the state of Nevada for production. The other benefit is it thrives in bad water. Sewer water. Waste water. All around a great program. I wish we could have all the money back from the other foolhardy ventures and invest it in this along with nuclear. I know there has been some blowback from Charles Krauthamer. He's wrong on this.

I have a friend I used to try to debate. She was strident, mean spirited and without any depth. She always thought she won every argument in which she was engaged because no matter how inane or wacky her argument, if she got the last word in, she felt like she "won". What is so sad is people soon eschewed her, she was alone considered a crackpot by everyone except herself. This is one of the sad self delusions that too many engage in. When I find myself going down that path, I shut up. I just don't do it soon or often enough.

Let them eat cake

A nation whose foundations were established on the Word of God looks to an election to change it’s course, demonstrating that it’s people no longer esteem His word and have forsaken their God. For had they still known him, they would have also known that it is God alone who raises up kings and removes kings from power ( Daniel 2:20-21, 4:17, 5:21 ).They would have seen their present condition for what it was, correction from God, meant to bring a nation to repentance. No one considered in their heart that we have leaders like these because we have departed from the paths of righteousness and embraced evil, and no one considers in their heart that unless we repent and return to our God, we can expect things to only get worse. Our enemies see the gaps in our walls and they prepare to make their move, all the while, our leaders throw lavish parties in the White House, oblivious to the suffering masses and oblivious to the enemies advances. And if you listen carefully, you can almost hear the voice of the First Lady as she stands in the midst of her party guests, telling them” let the people eat cake ” while behind her the hand of God writes the final verdict for a rebellious nation on the wall between portraits of the Founding Fathers, who 200 years earlier warned us what would become of a nation that turned from the truth.

‎... any questions ...?
so true!

An opomistic Prophecy for a change, not from me

Kris Vallotton KVMinistries.com
I have a sense that our country is improving. I had this vision of God blowing or breathing on this continent as Jesus breathed on His disciples and said,"receive the Holy Spirit." It wasn't a suggestion but a command. I saw the nation turning blood red from the east coast to the west coast. It was the redemptive nature of forgiveness being... assimilated into the ground...and out of the soil souls were emerging like soldiers in a battlefield.. Dead bones were coming to life. They were dressed for battle in different realms. Some had expensive business suits and others were dressed like doctors, teachers and so forth. They all were given secret messages that they read and then ate. The message transformed them and equip them for their mission. Revelation was released over the nation and inventions and innovations were spring up all over like the first week of Spring. Pennsylvania was highlighted as if a major breakthrough was raising from there. Instead of 2 towers, 3 towers were being built as a sign of the strength of our economy being supported by a 3 cord strand. I felt a warning that many would look at the political climate to determine the condition of the country but the signs of revival would not flow from the White House but to it. Hope would not arise from polls but from the people. This was a people movement that swept the globe turning the planet a deep purple.

I saw the Lord blowing freezing cold air over Iran and North Korea etc. It created impossible conditions for war. He literally froze their war machines...it was a political climate change equal to the fall of the iron curtain.

I saw that God had already released Daniels into China and humility and generosity would spring up from from the East. God called it a "helping movement". I saw China would be given the "gift of helps" for the world. God was hugging centuries of brokenness out of them.

There was much more- but every country that was bent on war was frozen...the climate was suddenly and unpredictably changed. It was weird but good.

I heard the words ,"singing revolution."

I'm back friends. Was gone for 2 weeks and missed the banter of my brilliant Facebook friends. Hey how about that nationally broadcast Whitney Houston 3 hour Evangelism Crusade?! I caught it on my way home playing at all the airports. Tell me the devil is not kicking the scaled butt of some demon of addiction that push...ed Whitney over the edge and inadvertently ignighted a media evangelism event unlike any other. One major News Site had headline - ENTIRE NATION GOES TO CHURCH- after the Funeral Broadcast! Now all those words I heard about a MASSIVE HOLLYWOOD REVIVAL breaking loose makes more sense. Backslid stars are getting sober and folks who never darkened a church just got "Holy Ghosted" (thats the term I heard Whitney once use to describe what happened in the Choir when the anointing them at the church the service took place in Newark.)
Glenn Reynolds, the Instapundit, distills the current hysteria thus: "It's as if we passed a law requiring mosques to sell bacon and then, when people objected, responded by saying 'What's wrong with bacon? You're trying to ban bacon!!!!'"

Americans foolish enough to fall for the Democrats' crude bit of misdirection can hardly complain about their rendezvous with the sharp end of that page 58 bud...get graph. People are free to buy bacon, and free to buy condoms. But the state has no compelling interest to force either down your throat. The notion that an all-powerful government would distract from its looming bankruptcy by introducing a universal contraceptive mandate would strike most novelists as almost too pat in its symbolism. It's like something out of "Brave New World." Except that it's cowardly, and, like so much else about the sexual revolution, very old and wrinkled.

A man like Jackson who should have experienced a ride on a rail out of town with warm carbon ...based materials and bird Fletch smeared all over him. Jackson, a man who should be indited, not re elected. He gets endorsement from these guys? Pshaw. I'm so tired of this plantation mentality that keeps people in chains. Wake up!!

Jesse Jackson Jr. faces no small opposition in his re-election run in the Congressional 2nd District, from alleged corruption connections to allegations of an extramarital affair.

30-40 years ago we were a nation of children who climbed trees, made forts in the woods, built go carts with no brakes, went skating on ponds with no adults in sight...the lists go on and on.

Today we have become a nation of wimps that calls the ambulance when we get a bee sting. This is having a calamitous effect on the health care field and also will have a calamitous effect on the expenses p...aid by all of us.

It may be just one more nail in the USA's coffin.

Healthcare costs too much in our country because we deliver too much healthcare. We deliver too much because we demand too much. And we demand it for all the wrong reasons. We’re turning into a nation of anxious wimps.

I still love my job; very few things are as emotionally rewarding as relieving true pain and suffering, sharing compassionate care and actually saving lives. Illness and injury will always require the best efforts our medical system can provide. But emergency departments nationwide are being overwhelmed by the non-emergent, and doctors in general are asked to treat what doesn’t need treatment.

In a single night I had patients come in for the following complaints (all brought by ambulance): “Smoked marijuana and got dizzy”, “stung by a bee and it hurts”, “got drunk and have a hangover”, “sat out in the sun and got sunburn”, “ate Mexican food and threw up”, “picked my nose and it bled, but now it stopped”, “just had sex and want to know if I’m pregnant.”

There was a famous saying by some French dude that basically said, "Tomorrow's soldiers are being made on the playgrounds today."

I just finished watching Band of Brothers which is true stories from WWII and the intense physical stamina of those soldiers 65 years ago. It makes me wonder if we have any of the manly-men today that we had in generations past...or if the men today are more concerned about getting their nails and hair done?

Houston's death could spur lesson about drugs

Whitney Houston's funeral, held Saturday at the Newark church where she sang at as a child, and the governor's order to fly the American flag at half-staff in her honor have resulted in debates as to whom the flag should be lowered for, and a continued discussion about prescription drug abuse and addiction.

The Grammy Award winner, who died Feb. 11 at age 48, was found with prescription pill bottles in her Beverly Hills hotel room. For years, Houston had struggled with cocaine, marijuana and prescription drug addition.

"It's tragic, but if there is any good that comes out of this is a lot of discussion and a lot of awareness," said Becky Carlson, assistant director of the Center for Prevention and Counseling in Newton.

"Parents can use this tragedy as a way to start opening the eyes of young people," Carlson said. "Parents need to realize that what they say does matter and they should use Whitney Houston as a stepping stone to open the door to discuss (drug abuse and addiction.) Talk to them early, talk to them often."

New Jersey Herald - Houston's death could spur lesson about drugs

Locusts in the Church

There is a term that is used in Joel describing the locust - which seems to refer to the people who were takers while not being givers or developers of anyone - just eating.

Peter refers to this in Acts in addressing people in Jerusalem - in reference to Rome's occupation of the Judean area and its deterioration of the Hebrew faith and discipline of following God.

I think that maybe the consumer term we use today might be somewhat relevant to this description.

The question is - Have we become simply locusts in our concepts of church and the body today?

Consider the evidence in the terms we use without restraint to describe the body and church:

  • - I'm not being fed
  • - Church Growth
  • - Relevancy
  • - Fulfilled
  • - Spiritual appetite
  • - Church discipline (meaning created justifying not giving (supposedly of a commitment) when they don't like something - or treating someone as an outcast when they don't like something they did).
  • - Blessing (meaning changed to acquiring material things - rather than receiving the endorsement of God)
  • - Provision (meaning changed to gaining material things - rather than the providing of God's purpose throughout generations)
  • - Outreach (meaning bringing someone into our group - rather than extending ourselves out on their behalf)
  • - Love (meaning you do what I like - rather than I am sacrificing myself for you)
  • - Meet my needs

There are certainly many others - but you get the idea and probably have many more that come to mind.

There were four contexts of giving that address the invasion of the weeds and thorns (lust and cares and concerns of the world in a person's soul) in the composition of growing fruit - so long as we want to work that is, and not just eat our fill.

  • Participation - everyone participates in giving something to create a body's meeting (financial participation is simply contributing to the expenses of the meeting or service offered - and of course is not really giving, but is rather, just not stealing)
  • Tithe - everyone gives to the storehouse to create a resource in care of the community's well-being (of course govt taxes compete with the tithe for resource and allegiance of people today - and determines who we really believe should address welfare needs of our society - for if we don't tithe to a common storehouse for community needs (this is not a church service expense) then we say we believe we should pay the government to do the welfare work in the wake of our neglect.
  • Offering - love sacrifice given for the minister's and missionary's well-being - whose work it is to create the supports and facilitate the the development of the ministry of the body.
  • Alms - personal resources set aside to feed the poor and those who come to your door.

Consider that there are not really corporations to give to - because a Corporation is simply a business structure of individual profit centers and this of course corrupts the pure giving nature the church is supposed to maintain in being committed to developing and resourcing simply people and purposes focused by personal obedience in regard of God

Consider how we have created the habit of seeing our involvement in church as needing to satisfy us, meet our needs, help us feel God - rather than being the manner of our sacrifice purely to God for the sake of getting rid of the weeds (of course if we don't like weeding - or working, this may not translate very clearly).

Consider how the ministering agents who plow and plant or grow and harvest - aka: facilitate the services giving the opportunity for people to express worship (sacrifice) to God in the fashion of the use of people's gifts -have been so neglected in love offerings (which the vocational minister is called to live by) that they have had to retreat to the shield of Government employment (NPO - 501c3 - aka: the force of equal welfare management) to address how the Body of Christ has treated those (the least and teachers) whom they were instructed to give double honor to - because they are called to lead in giving by making themselves vulnerable by the nature of the work of growing givers or fruit bearers.

Consider these words in 2 Tim. 3:2

In that time people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, arrogant, evil speakers, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, holding nothing sacred (everything is a consumable), disloyal, rejecting grace,

Have you slid into the business model of the locusts, so much that you have become a consumer of the church and its resources for the sake merely your appetite?

Does it not say somewhere..."and their god will be their stomach..."

So, have we become the locusts today - simply by seeing ourselves primarily as consumers?

Are we the generation of locusts prophesied about - or do we actually want to work (as opposed to just being about finding ways to take money and eat up our worldly welfare) for an eternal living?

DL
